Why me Lord, what have I ever done To deserve even one, of the pleasures I've known. Tell me Lord, what did I ever do, That was worth love FROM you, Or the kindness you've shown. Lord help me Jesus, I've wasted it so, Help me Jesus, I know what I am. Now that I know, that I've needed you so, Help me Jesus, my soul's in your hand. Tell me Lord, if you think there's a way, That I can repay, all I've taken from you. Maybe... Read more...

What?? the Tater what??  The Tater Toot!  It's our local community's annual festival.  Our little community of about 400 has one of the better parades in the area for the summer.  Although as a firefighter I'd be able to drive one of the aparatus in the parade and the family drive with me, we have made it tradition to put together an entry that is fun, humerous, and really gets peoples' attention each year.We have won first place in the "Commercial Non-Agricultural division"... I get asked every day, "Where did that stuff come from?  How do I keep it from getting on my computer again?"*sigh* It's the $50 Million question (or was that $64,000?).Malware is coming from EVERYWHERE these days.  Email, P2P programs like Limewire, Frostwire, etc, Warez/Crack websites, Adult oriented websites, Social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc.  It even comes from completely legitimate websites that have vulnerabilities in them that the criminal o... How useless is HP/CompaqVery!!!Heres the story: A customer with a Compaq laptop came to me to see if it could be fixed he said the screen had lines in it sometimes and that he would shut it down and reboot it would go away, Then he said sometimes he would shut it off and it would never boot again sometimes.Ok that lead me to believe there was an overheating problem. Over the last couple days I've been moving content articles from our old website system into this new one.  The new system is going to rock... I can't wait to make it "live".  Change is never easy, but I'm calling this change a fresh start. In copying articles over, I realize that we've been really falling behind on updating content for the website.  I many times get asked if some of the things I explain in discussion I have with clients are published anywhere that they can easily ge... One of the reasons for our redesign is because of the upgrade in our forum. "Why bother with the forum? It hasn't been open since December!" you might ask. Well, the plan is still to reopen the forum, but part of reopening the forum I made dependant upon the release of the new IPB 3 version.  It doesn't appear that our portal is going to be readily compatible with ipb 3, so I decided to make some other changes and updates as well. With these changes, all the content in the old sys... Read more...

Last week we saw announcements from Novell and Apple regarding discontinuation of their yearly conferences.  I understand that many organizations are limiting travel budgets and training budgets – and more companies are going to virtual conferences.  Those of us who work in IT find ourselves living in a virtual world every day.  We’re the geeks who hide out in our ... It’s nothing new though – I suspect thousands of Midwesterners are experiencing the same phenomenon. I’ve talked with some folks who have related similar dreams to me.  One lady spoke of dreaming that she was driving on a road that turned to mud.  Suddenly, she was driving atop a levee, and water was pouring over the top, and she watched as the levee crumbled away to the force... So Thursday night was a little event they call Meet the Experts.  This event was held in the tech lab area, next to where the exhibitor's hall had been. (The hall closed Wednesday night).  Meet the experts is about talking to the folks who design Novell's applications and asking them specific questions to drill down and learn what you really want to know.  It's a great idea - as long as you have specific questions.  I only had a couple of my own, but tagged along with some folks who did h... Wednesday after the general session, I had some tutorial sessions scheduled, including one by Laura Chappell. Laura’s sessions are BYOL sessions, and although you don’t need one to sit in on the sessions, it is great to follow along on the trace files she provides in her Lab Kit DVD.  If you haven’t seen her in action, you can download the ISO files for the DVD.  Check out her... The sessions here have been fantastic.  The track I chose was heavy in security and virtualization.  They have sessions called ATT – those are generally intense hands-on training sessions. Yesterday I had a virtualization ATT that never quite made it to the labs – everyone in the room was full of questions about the product and what could and could not be done wit... Read more...
