Repair the autoplay feature PDF Print E-mail

Sometimes when Malware gets onto a computer the autoplay feature can stop working, and then needs to be repaired. Below are instructions on repairing the autoplay feature.

 

Click on the following link:

autofix utility to download the Microsoft autoplay utility, save the utility to your desktop.


Close all your other windows with the red "X" in the upper right so you can see your desktop and double click on “autofix”.  It looks like a little gear.

Nothing important here, click next.

 The utility checks for problems automatically, and if one of the “repair” buttons below is highlighted click on it, then click next. If not, click next right away.

 Click on the drive that is giving you problems(DVD/CD-RW Drive (D:) in this case) and then click next.  If you have a USB drive, or a slot for a digital camera memory card, it will show up here as well.  In this image, those particular drives are showing up as E:, F:, G:, and H:.

 The utility does policy checks.  Again if one of the “repair” buttons below lights up click repair then click next. If not just click next right away.

In this window just the follow instructions given to you and click begin test. While the utility is testing, it will look for problems with the legacy autoplay event, and the autoplay V2 event, if a problem occurs the button on the right labeled “repair” will light up. Click on “repair” button to resolve problem.

Your problem should be fixed! You can now just exit the program, and put a CD or DVD in your disk drive and test it.

 

 

-This process can be used for any of the drive letters on the computer, including flash drives for you digital camera, thumb drives you would plug into USB, etc.
