New Site Layout/Design Live! PDF Print E-mail
Written by computerguy

Well, the new site is live, although just a bit sooner than I would have liked it.  There are a number of things that need to be fixed yet, and I'll be doing those things over the next week I hope.

We had to take the new site live quickly yesterday because I upgraded our forum to IPB's new version 3.0 (boy is that new and different).  Our old main page was driven partially by the forum, and since the new 3.0 forum is not compatible with the portal we were using, once we made that forum upgrade, we realized that we broke the main page.  We knew it was going to happen, I just happened to forget it at the time I was upgrading the forum.

So, anyway, we've got some images that are broken currently.  Those will be fixed soon, however they most likely won't be fixed before next week, as we are taking a long weekend over the 4th holiday.  There are some other things we need to make prettier and better as well... we're working on it. :)

Lots to do yet, but we're getting there... exciting improvements... just WAIT till you get a look at the new forum, wow...

Thanks for bearing with us through these changes!

Regards,
Dusty

Interested in Helping? We want YOU! PDF Print E-mail

Our community has grown and continues to grow!  This is a great thing!  We are very happy people are turning to our site for help with their computer dilemas.

Along with our growth, we've had a number of absolutely GREAT folks that have become "regulars" on our forums to help people out of their computer conundrums... and for that we are ETERNALLY gratefull.

As great as these folks are, there tends to be more posts for help many times as there are helpers, and we can get behind from time to time.  While most people understand, we strive here to make sure everyone gets an answer as fast as practical, and it sometimes places undue stress on those few that help.

This is where YOU come in.....

One of our Respected Advisors put it best I think...

"Our staff has GREAT PRIDE in this site and our growth is proof that we CARE. We individually care. We're not only here to analyze logs and delete adware/spyware. We love to keep it intersesting, fun and exiting.

We've got joke threads, game threads, your car threads.......even have threads...  ...where we bicker a little bit at one another....it keeps it fun and lively..."

We've been told many times on our forums that we are the "friendliest computer help site on the net"... and we take great pride in that.

I also like to say that we do our best to "meet people where they are at..."  whether that be having a hard time finding the Start button, or if you're trying to set up a wireless network or something more complicated.

If YOU are interested in helping, have a fair amount of computer knowledge, and you believe in the philosophies above.... we welcome you!  Please introduce yourself to everyone and let us know you'd like to help.  We'll let you into the "campus" area where "staff" can discuss things in private and bounce ideas off each other before posting them in the general public.

And then there's the pay...  Quite frankly, you can not beat the pay.  The satisfaction that you freed a user from the peril of their computer problem is the best payment in the world!

Come on in to our forums and get to know us!

P.S.  While we are a wonderful, friendly bunch, please respect those who came before you.  While we are very open to most peoples opinions, there are many that have spent significant time on this site and take a lot of ownership in it.  Get to know us first, before coming on like a ton of bricks.. ;)

Our Email is being Spoofed! PDF Print E-mail
Written by computerguy
Wednesday, 19 May 2004 00:00

It has come to our attention that some folks are getting e-mails that appear to be from thatcomputerguy.us which have the Netsky virus attached.

We scan our network frequently with two separate independant virus programs and have no infecions on our network.

If you recieve an e-mail from us that has a virus attached, the virus is spoofing our e-mail addresses and making it LOOK like it came from us, when in reality it hasn't.

Please beware of this... and as always, be careful when opening e-mails!

Above all, do no harm...

ASAP stands for the Alliance of Security Analysis Professionals.

ASAP logo

ASAP is made up of website/forum owners and administrators, forum staff, individuals, companies and various organizations who all provide security related support to computer end users.
ASAP is a joint effort designed to assist helping end users with as seamless a process as possible by using methods such as cross-referrals, multiple product support services, easy information access, and cross referencing/verification.

ASAP's goals are:
*To ensure a high standard and quality of security support no matter where you seek help.
*To promote the products used to keep your computer clean and safe in an equal and fair manner.
*To ensure that end users are not affected by so called "product wars" and unfair marketing tactics which have plagued several industries in recent years.

In light of recent DDOS attacks on various support sites, ASAP ensures that quality support and assistance will continue - knock one of the support networks out and another will pick it up immediately. In addition, pooled resources will permit the ability to provide support redundancy, thereby adding additional protection against Internet based threats.

If you see the ASAP logo or banner used by a site, bulletin board, or person, you can be assured that you're getting the best support and assistance possible, as the combined efforts of all ASAP members are involved in helping everyone, and we won't give up until your important investment is safe and clean.

ASAP is a non-profit volunteer network.
